Gorgeous original 1950s Dalton cardigan, made from wonderfully soft 100% virgin cashmere. A beautifully understated piece with a classic fitted 1950s silhouette, long sleeves and a wonderfully shaped wide pointed collar. The front is finished with a contrasting textured knit placket and a row of beautiful mother-of-pearl buttons, whose natural iridescence adds just the right amount of detail to this otherwise very refined design.
The colour is particularly lovely and quite difficult to capture accurately in photographs: a soft muted taupe-brown / mushroom brown, with subtle grey undertones rather than a deep chocolate brown. The photograph showing the Dalton label gives the most accurate representation of the actual colour.
Dalton became particularly known during the 1950s for its fine cashmere knitwear, often combining beautifully simple silhouettes with carefully considered collars, trims and decorative details. This cardigan is a wonderful example of that quieter side of the label's work.

Condition: Mint condition. This piece has been carefully hand washed and the cashmere fibers are in excellent shape, fluffy, soft and free of pilling. The color is solid. No holes, stains, smells, rips, etc.
