A fabulous late 1950s / early 1960s Pringle of Scotland sweater, made in Scotland from 100% pure cashmere.
The wonderfully bold design combines a vivid orange-red ground with deep navy blue, worked in a large repeating geometric intarsia pattern of overlapping rounded arches. The motif continues around the sides of the body, creating a particularly striking graphic effect.
The silhouette already hints at the changing fashions of the early 1960s: straighter and more relaxed through the body than the closely fitted cashmere sweaters of the earlier 1950s, with long sleeves and a beautifully wide, shallow round neckline.
Most importantly, the original labels identify the piece as “Intarsia by Pringle – Inlaid by Hand – Made in Scotland” and 100% Pure Cashmere. Pringle was particularly accomplished in this form of patterned knitwear; surviving documentation shows intarsia production at its Hawick factory around 1961.

Condition: Near mint condition. Notice a couple of spots on the belly area (view photos), they are hardly noticiable. This piece has been carefully hand washed and the cashmere fibers are in excellent shape, fluffy, soft and free of pilling. The color is solid. No holes, other stains, smells, rips, etc.
