Stunning 1950s French cotton dress, made in Paris, featuring an exceptionally beautiful monochrome floral and ornamental stripe print in charcoal grey and black over a warm ivory background.
The dress has a classic New Look-inspired silhouette, with a closely fitted bodice, defined natural waist and a wonderfully full, pleated skirt. Three-quarter length sleeves are finished with wide patterned cuffs, while the simple round neckline keeps the focus on the striking placement of the print.
Beautiful attention has been paid to the construction, with the vertical ornamental stripes carefully positioned to accentuate the shape of the bodice and continue through the voluminous skirt. The bodice fastens discreetly at the front with fabric-covered buttons, while a metal zipper at the waist provides additional closure.
Made from crisp cotton, with the skirt internally supported by a lightweight white cotton lining/interlining that gives it extra body and structure.
There is no maker's label, but the original metal buttons are stamped “PARIS”, confirming its French manufacture.
