This is a stunning 1950s French dress, made from a wonderfully rich textured wool fabric in deep teal green and black, woven with striking raised cobalt blue florals.
The classic 1950s silhouette is beautifully proportioned, with a simple wide neckline, softly shaped bodice, fitted waist and an exceptionally full pleated skirt. Short sleeves balance the dramatic volume of the skirt, while the restrained construction allows the extraordinary textile to take centre stage.
The fabric is particularly special, combining an irregular woven ground with bold floral motifs worked in a heavier, almost three-dimensional texture. The intense combination of deep green, black and electric cobalt blue gives the dress a remarkably modern appearance despite its unmistakably mid-century construction.
Finished with its original narrow matching belt with metal eyelets and a metal Éclair zipper running down the back.

Condition: Near mint condition, note small flaws on the fabric covering the buckle (see photo). There is some very light surface matting to the raised blue wool at the underarms, caused by gentle wear. It is subtle, confined to this area and not noticeable when the dress is worn. (see photos).
