1940s - Outstanding French Siren Wool Opera Coat - W31 (80cm)

This is a fabulous siren opera coat from the early 1940s probably made in France. It has no label but the zipper is a VITEX one and it comes from a french home, so everything make us quite sure this is a French couture coat. 

Here we have a true fully front zipped siren coat. Siren dresses, jumpsuits and coats started to be very popular in the early 1940s because of the war. They could be worn over pyjamas or nightgones and easily slipped on for a quick run to the air raid shelter. That is why they were popularly known as Siren dresses/coats in reference to the air raid sirens. So, this is a clear example on how fashion is influenced by history and viceversa. 

The fabric is red wool, very soft and pleasant. It has an extremely beautiful waisted shape on the front and a magnific cape shape back. The sleeves and cuffs couldnt be more elegant and chic! Two side pockets. Padded shoulders. 

Measures - Please make sure you double-check your own measures and compare them to the ones below.

Shoulders seam to seam: -

Armpit to armpit: 21" (54cm)

Sleeves: -

Waist: 31" (80cm) perfect fit - note it can be adjusted to smaller and it has an elastic band so it could fit one size more. 

Hips: -

Shoulder to waist: 16" (41cm)

Waist to bottom: 41" (104cm) 

Length: 57" (145cm)

Sweep, taken flat side to side: -

Fabric: Wool, metal zipper

Condition: Fabulous overall condition but it has a few very small things. Please note that all the flaws we will mention are in the lower back or bottom back area! The whole front of the coat and the upper back and sleeves are in mint condition. Please note that any of these flaws are relevant or remarkable as they are absolutely not noticeable when worn!

Please refer to the photos to see the flaws in detail: one tiny hole. A 2" (5cm) stain and a group of tiny stains. A few tiny spots/marks. Note the stains seem to be quite recent and they will probably disappear with professional cleaning.
