Exceptional vintage Ballantyne of Peebles cardigan, made in Scotland from beautifully soft 100% pure cashmere.
Featuring Ballantyne’s celebrated intarsia technique, the design forms a striking geometric composition of oversized diamonds in ivory, soft grey and charcoal, beautifully integrated directly into the knit. Finished with delicate mother-of-pearl buttons and a classic fitted silhouette.
Ballantyne’s intarsia cashmeres were already being advertised as luxury Scottish knitwear in the early 1950s; a wonderful 1952 Ballantyne advertisement even highlighted the remarkable amount of skilled handwork involved in creating their intricate intarsia designs.

Condition: Near mint condition, it has three tiny repairs you won't even notice: one on top of the left shoulder, one on the back and one on the bottom side (view photos with yellow arrows. No other issues at all. This piece has been carefully hand washed and the cashmere fibers are in excellent shape, fluffy, soft and free of pilling. The color is solid. No holes, stains, smells, rips, etc.
